A downloadable asset pack

Set of tiles that are part of a larger ongoing project that could ultimately be used to create a "Metroidvania" taking place throughout a city, with a style inspired by games like Ninja Gaiden and Batman for NES.

These tiles are still in an early state, but can still be very useful, and due to their design the tiles can be "chopped up" and mix-and-matched in quite a few ways if you want to get creative.  I'll also be expanding and refining the tiles related to this theme, so while the larger, city-wide asset pack will cost a reasonable price when completed, this set and any modifications/additions to it will remain free. I have some very cool things planned, using the NES aesthetic but taking it to places the NES itself couldn't have achieved, some of which involves pseudo-3D effects. Progress will be slow-going, but I will update as these new elements become useful.

The graphics are designed to use black as the base and background color, which makes it particularly easy to fade tiles into each other with a little editing.  Some simple guides are included in the sprite sheet, but it still needs some organizing. There are also some additional tiles which aren't seen in the screenshots.

The little sprite of the jumping man is not included, that was only placed in the screenshots for reference.  Ultimately, some animated sprites for a player character or two and some enemies might be included, but right now my focus is on the level graphics.

Any suggestions are welcome, and I'll do my best to include modifications that you might find useful.

These assets are free to use and modify in any personal or commercial project, but do not distribute or sell the assets "as-is".

How are these tiles split? Most programs will not accept tilesets that are not uniformly spaced.

At the moment, they're organized against a 16x16 grid, with tiles that fit in 16x16 positioned that way, but the sprite sheet at the moment isn't designed for quick importing, but for manual extraction. Once I've done a few edits, such as doing a few more tiles used for bridging other tiles, I'm going to organize them better and can provide smaller sheets with the various sub-sets of connecting tiles that will be easier to import into programs.
